Promoting Vocations with the Saint John Paul II Monstrance
The St. JPII Monstrance symbolizes hope and a call to service as it travels through the northern deanery, uniting parishes in dedication to nurturing religious vocations through Eucharistic Holy Hours. It fosters a culture that values and prays for those answering God's unique call.
The monstrance, blessed by St. Pope John Paul II in 2004, was entrusted to the USCCB, who graciously passed it on to Serra International. This was done with the specific intention of fulfilling the Pope's wish for the monstrance to be utilized in local parishes to pray for vocations.
The faithful are being invited to carry on St. Pope John Paul II’s request 20 years later. Those who come to pray before the Holy Eucharist on the day the monstrance is present in their chapel will be encouraged to offer special prayers for the increase of vocations to the priesthood and consecrated life. Parents are encouraged to take their children and youth to pray and explain the importance of being open to God’s call.
The monstrance will be making its way across the northern deanery, visiting every parish, Bishop White Seminary, and the Carmel of Jesus, Mary and Joseph in Post Falls. Our initial schedule for the monstrance's visitation is set from February 20, 2025 to April 1, 2025.
Planning and Preparation
We are so grateful for this opportunity. We can't do it alone and we’ll need help to make it a success. Planning for this event requires a timeline to be made outlining the location of each stop on the journey along with the existing adoration hours for those locations. Our plan is to utilize each parish's existing adoration schedule, while substituting the St. JPII Monstrance with specific intentions for vocations. One of the requirements of having the monstrance is that it can only be transported from location to location by a Serran member.
Volunteer to Help
Do you have a knack for logistics? Are you good at planning? Can you make some phone calls to parishes? We could use your skill set! We are looking for help gathering contact information on each parish's adoration lead and contacting them to find out their existing schedule. Plus we need help putting together a plan for the most efficient way to journey through the northern deanery based on adoration schedules.
We also need Serra member volunteers that are willing to help with transporting the monstrance to the various locations, as required by Serra International.
If you can help with any of these needs, we would love to hear from you. Please click the link below to fill out the form.
